Work above ground on the Malaga metro expansion into the central Alameda is now in its last stage, four years after it started. The final phase includes the pedestrianisation of nearly the whole area.
However, underground the work continues, although it won't be too long before there is light at the end of the tunnel. Around 85 per cent of the underground excavations are complete and, since the beginning of April, work has been carried out 24 hours a day, every day of the week, in order to speed the process up.
It is now ten years since works on the stretch between the María Zambrano and Guadalmedina train stations began.
