A 24-year-old man of Serbian nationality was shot in the head whilst travelling in a vehicle with his family on Maundy Thursday. The emergency services received a call at around 11.50pm, reorting a shooting and traffic accident in the Los Amigos residential area in Mijas. It was reported that as well as the shooting, there had been a collision and one of the cars had overturned.
When emergency services arrived on the scene, they found the fatally injured man, his 20-year-old pregnant wife, and their two year old daughter. The wife and daughter were taken to the Costa del Sol hospital, but left a few hours later with no serious injuries.
The victim was taken to Carlos Haya hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency room in a critical condition. After several hours, he was pronounced dead as a result of the gunshot wound to his head.
The police are now trying to determine what happened in Mijas. In these early stages of the investigation, nothing has been ruled out.
In recent months several shootings have been recorded in the province of Malaga. Last month a man was shot in the residential area of La Dama de Noche in Marbella, but did not sustain serious injuries. The bullet is said to have grazed his forehead.
Another man was also shot in Marbella and died of his injuries in January. The 49-year-old man, of Moroccan origin, owned five nightclubs in the area, as well as bars and restaurants.
More than twenty shots were fired at him by a gunman who was waiting for him at his home in San Pedro de Alcántara at around 3.30am. In his attempt to escape, he was hit by more than a dozen bullets.
