The mayor of Fuengiola has been in touch with Renfe over the possibility of reducing the fare on the Cercaniás rail line for the four stations that run through the municipality.

The idea, which came from the Ciudadanos group on the council, is to have cheaper fares for short hops between the stations and so create a form of urban metro in Fuengirola.

Currently the fare is 1.80 euros per trip and the idea presented to Renfe is to get the fare down to close to one euro for journeys between the four local stations of Fuengirola, Los Boliches, Torreblanca and Carvajal on the C1 Fuengirola-Malaga line.

Renfe is said to be studying the idea, which would be via a form of prepaid 'bonotren' card.
