Passengers affected by Boeing 737 cancellations will not be eligible for compensation

  • Those affected are entitled to assistance from the airline and reimbursement or the provision of alternative transport

Passengers affected by cancellations due to the grounding of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft are not entitled to financial compensation, according to sources at the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA).

They say that passengers are entitled to assistance from the airline and reimbursement or the provision of alternative transport, but not compensation.

This is because, according to EU regulations, this is "an extraordinary circumstance for which airlines cannot be held responsible".

In any case, it is expected that the ban will have very little impact on flights coming into and going out of Spain, with only 0.8 per cent of aircraft landing in this country in 2018 corresponding to this model.
