The International Women's Day march last Friday evening brought together more than 50,000 people in Malaga city centre.

There was a festive atmosphere as women and men called for real equality with placards and slogans carried along a route that took them more than two hours to cover.

Smaller marches took place around the region, with hundreds gathering in Marbella.

Meanwhile in Madrid, some 350,000 people join the city centre march.

The march culminated a day of demonstrations and actions to mark International Women's Day.

The strike, which all women were encouraged to join, was followed in Malaga by the majority of older secondary school and university students.

The trade union UGT reported that workers in large firms in the agro-food industry, public administration and the aeronautical and health sectors had joined the strike.
