Phase two of the town hall's street surveillance project will see another 111 CCTV cameras installed in public areas of Marbella and San Pedro. These follow the 85 cameras that have already been introduced in the first phase of the scheme; 55 are already operating in Puerto Banús and this week seven in the Virgen del Carmen marina were due to be switched on. Next month cameras in shopping centre car parks in Las Chapas and La Cañada will start to operate.
The new batch, explained mayor Ángeles Muñoz last week, will be installed in the old towns of Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara. This phase two, however, still has to be approved by the central government department for Andalucía.
