Vélez-Málaga town hall has released a provisional estimate of a minimum of 100,000 euros worth of damage caused to properties and cars in El Trapiche when a mains water pipe burst last week.
This was the figure given by Vélez-Málaga mayor, Antonio Moreno Ferrer, while visiting El Trapiche on Monday with Patricia Navarro from regional government, the Junta de Andalucía.
Residents have said that repair work needs to be carried out to ensure that there is "no repeat" of the incident, which they say was not dealt with well by the authorities when it first happened.
El Trapiche resident, Carmen Rodríguez, told SUR that the worst affected street is "lower than the main road," meaning that water collects there whenever it rains heavily and action needs to be taken to allow water to drain properly.
