An agreement signed between the Malaga Bar Association and Alhaurín de la Torre prison will see the latter become the first in Spain to allow inmates to communicate with their counsel via conference call.
The trial will see computers in the prison set up specifically for this function and will only apply for communications with lawyers who are registered in Malaga.
"This arrangement will make the work of lawyers a lot easier," said sources inside the prison's management who insist that "within a short time" they will know if it is working well.
If successful, this new system will be rolled out nationwide.
