Residents who live in the houses nearest to a site earmarked for a new petrol station in Sayalonga are attempting to stop the town hall from building it. They say that the installation will "affect the environment and health" of the community. However, mayor, Antonio Pérez, says that the site, which belongs to agriculture cooperative, San Isidro, has been approved by the regional government, the Junta de Andalucía and building is due to start once work to a road in the town is complete. Residents argue that the project "may be legal but it isn't democratic."
