Four girls, aged 12 and 13, were taken to hospital with burns on Friday after an explosion in the chemistry laboratory at their school, Mayfair International Academy.
The explosion happened at around 2pm, when, according to school sources, the students were conducting chemistry experiments under teacher supervision. These tests had already been carried out safely on other occasions.
The four girls suffered second degree burns to their faces and were rushed by ambulance to the Costa del Sol Hospital, where three of them were admitted in a stable condition while the fourth required intensive care. Another 13-year-old student and the teacher of the class also suffered minor burns to their hands.
The National and Local Police also attended the scene of the explosion, along with the Helicopteros Sanitarios emergency services.
