Three of five youths recently arrested for a series of violent crimes in the Algarrobo area were given prison sentences earlier this week after a witnesses came forward at the end of August this year, leading to the arrest of all five.
According to Guardia Civil officers, the gang had been operating in the area for some time. However, victims had been "too frightened" to come forward.
On 25 August a resident of Algarrobo reported that the gang had assaulted him in the fairground area of the town, beaten him and forced him to take narcotics "against his will" before using his car to travel to Vélez-Málaga in order to buy drugs and making him withdraw money from a cash machine.
The five were identified through collaboration with both the national and local police as well as the foreigners' department of Vélez-Málaga's national police as one of the gang was found to be living illegally in the country.
