Arrest made over bomb found in bin in Marbella last month

  • The suspect was found to have four firearms and three ammunition boxes in his home

Last Wednesday's attacks are the second incident of this type to occur in the Marbella area in recent weeks. On 11 September National Police found a homemade bomb ready to be detonated in the Altos de Los Monteros area on 11 September.

Since then, the police have arrested a 33-year-old man from Utrecht (Netherlands) and of Moroccan descent, linked to a criminal drug trafficking network.

The suspect, who is being held in prison, was found to have four firearms (an automatic rifle and three handguns) and three ammunition boxes in his home.

Investigations linked this individual to the explosive device found in a bin and concluded that he was part of a criminal organisation that specialised in extorsion and drug trafficking.

The group typically uses explosives and firearms to threaten members of other rival criminal groups operating in Spain.
