A well-known Marbella bar narrowly escaped more serious damage last weekend when terrace seats stacked outside were set on fire.

The alarm was raised just before 7am on Sunday outside La Librería, by El Faro next to the resort's seafront. The flames spread across the front of the premises, as high as the mezzanine but not reaching the flats above. Although the outside was badly damaged, the interior, which contains a lot of books, was saved by the metal security doors. However the restaurant next door, which has the same owners, had windows and interior tables and chairs damaged.

Vandalism is suspected, pending an investigation. The owners have said they hope to reopen soon as "ten families depend on the bar" for their livelihoods.
