Hundreds of residents in the El Romeral and Santa Amalia districts of Alhaurín de la Torre have been waiting since 20 September for their telephone landlines to be restored after their connection was lost when thieves stole the copper wires. This is not the first time this has happened and residents, left without telephone and internet, have shown their frustration this week, threatening to take action against Telefónica (the company responsible for the network) if it does not fix the lines.
The town's mayor, Joaquín Villanova, has called for greater Guardia Civil presence in the area to prevent further thefts from taking place.
In April three arrests were made in connection with theft of copper wires when a similar situation affected 1,000 residents.
