Owners say that giving the power to decide to their neighbours could "devastate the sector"

Airbnb has told Madrid it supports a central real-time register but wants to see a distinction in treatment between people renting professionally and private ad hoc rentals

A group representing owners of tourism lets in Andalucía has rejected the government's proposed reforms. Carlos Pérez Lanzac of AVVA said, "We don't agree with the decision to give power to neighbours because, legally-speaking, it could be very complicated because the purpose of these residents' associations is to decide on the communal areas, but they can never go against private property rights." Groups representing owners are pushing for a centralised national register as a way of avoiding law changes and possible mushrooming of legal action.

Speaking for the Malaga association of managing agents, Fernando Pastor said that his colleagues welcomed the government's interest as "it has become almost impossible" for some neighbours to get along".

The hotel sector has also welcomed the government initiative , calling for "a level playing field" between the more heavily regulated hotel sector and the newer private home rental sector.

PAT, an association of booking platforms excluding Airbnb has also called for new rules for property lets to apply to guest houses as well.
