The opposition Partido Popular (PP) party at Nerja town hall has criticised the current Socialist administration for the "dangerous state" of the railings around the town's famous Balcón de Europa.
PP councillor, José Miguel García, was speaking after photographs appeared on social media last Friday allegedly showing the bad state of repair of the railings. However, mayor, Rosa Arrabal, gave assurances that the situation was "being dealt with".
García hit back saying that he had not seen any work being done to one of the province's most popular visitor attractions and that people's safety was being put at risk.
Socialist councillor for Infrastructure at Nerja, José María Rivas, added that the town hall has asked the regional government, the Junta de Andalucía, for a 102,600-euro grant to pay for an "integral modernisation" of the railings.
