A 51-year-old fireman died on Tuesday after drowning in his swimming pool while carrying out apnea exercises to increase his lung capacity.

Stationed in Torremolinos, the man had been playing in the pool at his family home in Alhaurín de la Torre with his children.

Alarmed when he didn't surface after some time, the children alerted their mother; she called a neighbour who works at a hospital, but her resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
