A Canadian group looking to build an entertainment complex the size of 1,300 football pitches was rumoured to be eyeing up a site on the Costa del Sol around Manilva or the hinterland of Gibraltar this week.

The project, worth an estimated 3.4 billion euros, has been looking for a home for a while ever since Madrid said it couldn't be built there. But the interest in the Costa del Sol appears to be a red herring to encourage the acceptance of the project by the regional government in Extremadura, which the company wants. There land is cheaper than the Costa and more readily available, and sources say that mentioning the Costa may be a negotiating tactic by the developers.
