After a frantic day out at sea during which 237 migrants were rescued from around a dozen boats, the various organisations tasked with processing migrants were stretched to the limit once again on Monday as calls increased for a permanent centre in the Costa del Sol capital.
After receiving first aid in the port, the 183 men were transferred to the Tiro de Pichón sports centre, as was the case two weeks ago, while the women and children remained in the care of the Cruz Roja.
The organisation's provincial head, Samuel Linares, said that a permanent base was necessary: "Just two weeks ago we put all these beds away and now we have to bring them all out again. It's a lot of work and we could better organise ourselves with a permanent base."
Spokesman for Málaga Acoge, José Luis Rodríguez, echoed the sentiment, saying: "A sports centre full of camp beds is not an adequate space for these people. They have to set up welcome centres that can give them some dignity."
