  • The artefact dates back to the end of the Neolithic period and beginning of the Bronze Age

A funeral urn dating back to the end of the Neolithic period and beginning of the Bronze Age has been discovered just seven metres from the public areas of the Nerja Caves; in the Sala de Cataclismo.

Although the urn was discovered in March the Nerja Cave foundation only revealed the find last week.

In a press release, the foundation said that the item was "one of the most notable discoveries made in the caves in recent years".

It went on to highlight the importance of the caves during the Neolithic and other periods as a space used for funeral rituals.
