Translators to be provided for participatory budget meetings in Mijas

  • Councillors say that it is essential that foreigners are able to communicate properly during open town meetings

The first open meeting took place in La Cala de Mijas on Tuesday to keep local residents informed about progress on the participatory budgets which are to be introduced in the municipality for the first time next year.

At the meeting, which was held at the local branch of the town hall, it was announced that, given the high foreign population of the area, council staff would be present to act as translators for those who need them.

Tamara Vera, the councillor for Public Participation, and the councillor for Foreigners, Roy Pérez, say it is essential that foreigners, who represent more than 42 per cent of the registered population in Mijas, are able to have a say without suffering difficulties in communication.
