The National Police have arrested five people, four men and one woman, in Marbella in connection with defrauding more than 500,000 euros through the creation of false real estate promotions posted online. The number of victims is estimated to be in excess of a hundred.

Those detained are accused of posting advertisements for off-plan properties at highly attractive prices in locations such as Alhaurín el Grande, Mijas, Punta Umbria (Huelva), Alcalá de Guadiara (Seville) and Madrid.

The investigation first started after a number of complaints were made by people who had made deposits of between 5,000 and 10,000 euros to the false company then all contact with the supposed agents was lost.

Those accused allegedly contacted the real sellers of the off-plan properties under the guise of being interested buyers. They did this to ascertain all of the pertinent details which they then passed on to interested buyers, having gained their trust in the process.
