The company Intu Costa del Sol has started ground clearance work on the land where it will build its new shopping and leisure centre in Torremolinos.
Despite not yet receiving the green light from the Public Works ministry regarding the plans for access roads, the company has gone ahead with pruning work on the land it owns near the Palacio de los Congresos.
Some 237 trees will be destroyed because they are in bad health, while another 716 will be removed and placed in storage before forming part of the new landscape when the project is finished. A hundred of these, mostly olive trees, will be loaned to the town hall for use in Torremolinos' public parks, according to the developer.
