Archidona prison has received its first inmates a month and a half after opening

The Malaga II prison complex, located in Archidona, has received its first inmates.

The arrival of the first group, around 200 prisoners, took place this week, according to local mayor Mercedes Montero. This transfer has taken place around a month and a half after the facility was officially opened on 26 February. On that day, the Secretary of State for Security announced that the first cells would be occupied within 15 days. Critics have said that the prison has opened too soon, and that it doesn't yet have the necessary staff members to run it effectively.
