Three men have been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison each after pleading guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and degrading treatment in the case of Steven Allford, 51, who died outside the train station at Malaga Airport on 21 October 2016.

The body of the homeless man, who had been living at the airport for several weeks, was found by a security guard early in the morning, with his hands and feet tied to a bench, his trousers pulled down with his genitals inside an empty tin of tuna and slices of ham on his buttocks. According to the autopsy report, Allford had choked on his own vomit.

The perpetrators, two Finnish men and an Irishman, were tracked down after police in Finland found a video of the episode that one of the men had posted on Facebook.

According to the sentence, to which SUR has had access, Allford was unable to react because of his state of inebriation, allowing his tormentors to tie him to the bench using cable ties. Then, Once they had laughed enough, they left him to his own fate, reads the sentence.

The three men were each handed two-year prison terms for involuntary manslaughter, plus an additional half-year sentence for degrading treatment.
