Cécile McLorin Salvant to open Almuñécar's jazz festival

Organisers of Almuñécar's annual Jazz en la Costa festival have announced that American-born Cécile McLorin Salvant (1989) will open this year's event.

McLorin Salvant has won two Grammy awards; one in 2015 for her album 'For One to Love' and again in 2017 for the album, 'Dreams and Daggers'. She was nominated for a Grammy in 2013 for her second album, 'WomanChild'.

McLorin Salvant has been described as the best jazz singer of our times by music magazine, Down Beat.

Born to a Haitian father and French mother, the singer was born and raised in Miami, Florida, before moving in 2007 to Aix-en-Provence in France.

The singer will be performing songs from 'Dreams and Daggers' on 17 July, the opening night of the 31st Jazz en la Costa festival.

More information on performers is expected to be announced later this month for the event which will take place from 17 to 22 July in the Parque de El Majuelo in Almuñécar.
