Airlines put 16.1 million seats from Malaga Airport on sale for summer holiday season

  • The Costa del Sol also now has connections to 136 airports around the world without layovers and 4.7 per cent increase in flights landing in Malaga in recent months

Malaga Airport is going from strength to strength, with 16.1 million seats on sale for this year's high season - 600,000 more than during the same period last year.

The Costa del Sol also now has connections to 136 airports around the world without layovers and 4.7 per cent increase in flights landing in Malaga in recent months.

Given current projections, the airport hopes to operate 94,000 arrivals and departures during the period.

The importance of Malaga Airport is clear not just from the increase in the number of flights but also the increase in new routes and destinations. Qatar Airways has announced a new route linking Malaga with Doha, and the Hungarian airline Wizz Air is due to open new routes to Sofia (Bulgaria) and Katowice (Poland).

Flights to European destinations will be the most common during the period, especially to the UK, and specifically London.
