The national association of self-employed workers (autónomos) has called on the Junta de Andalucía regional government to catch up with other regions of Spain and introduce the flat-rate 50-euro social security rate for people registering as self-employed for the first time.
The special rate, much lower than the normal amount, is designed to encourage unemployed people to set up in business on their own and has been applied for the first 24 months in some areas. The regional parliament is still debating the new rule, which is also aimed at reducing the black-market economy.
