Police break up Chinese shop criminal gang

  • Commercial establishments, in particular Chinese-run shops, in the area reported forced entry and theft of money from cash registers

Three people have been detained and a further two are being investigated following a police operation to break up a criminal gang operating along the coast of the Axarquía.

The operation, named 'Pekín-Urano', started in October 2017 when commercial establishments, in particular Chinese-run shops, in the area reported forced entry and theft of money from cash registers.

The gang members were found to have criminal records for similar offences. However, they were paying third parties who had no previous records to give their details in order to hire vehicles in exchange for money. Gang members then carried out the raids using the vehicles hired in other people's names.
