Some species of birds have returned to the pond at Vélez-Málaga's María Zambrano park since a renovation, including improved filtration and oxygenation of the water, took place earlier this year.

Parks and gardens councillor, Marcelino Méndez-Trelles, visited the park earlier this week to see how work to redevelop the space is going.

He explained that the main focus was the pond and the next phase will involve modernising the sports facilities, such as the tennis courts, and cleaning up the whole park, about which the town hall had received a number of complaints.
