The local council in Marbella is to spend almost 400,000 euros on work to shore up and protect the rock face and sides of the old quarry in Nagüeles that is used as the summer venue for the Starlite music concert festival. For the last two years the council has carried out remedial work on the walls of the hillside outdoor venue so it is safe. But with plans well advanced to open up the venue to other groups interested in renting it for activities, a long-term solution is needed. The site, which is owned by the regional government and leased by the town hall, is in an environmentally-protected area.

Meanwhile councillors are carrying on with their plan to open up the venue for other events. Next week they will vote on the new rules for its use which should be fully approved during March.
