  • The district mayor, Rafael Piña, wants Avenida Marqués del Duero to be closed off but many are against

The district mayor for San Pedro on Marbella council, Rafael Piña, has told a public meeting of residents and businesses that he will organise a vote over whether to pedestrianise the Avenida Marqués del Duero, the main street into San Pedro from the coast towards the church.

San Pedro district town hall wants to close off the road to normal traffic once ongoing landscaping works are complete but a movement of local residents and businesses has argued that the road is a key artery and needs to stay open.

The renovation has been almost finished since November but a dispute with the contractor has meant it is still closed off. The vote will be carried out electronically.
