The city council has awarded the contract for the first stage of the part-pedestrianisation of the busy Alameda avenue, running from the Plaza de la Marina towards El Corte Inglés. Once the underground metro station work has finished on the north side, only the central lanes of the wide street will remain open to vehicles. The project involves moving the well-known statue of the Marquis of Larios closer to the bottom of Calle Larios so that road traffic can still flow freely.
