Coín celebrated its popular Feria de Gallinas Andaluz Sureñas last weekend. The fifth edition of the southern Andalusian poultry fair moved its location to the La Trocha shopping park this year, where hundreds of visitors marvelled over more than 600 stunning birds, more than half of which had been bred in Coín.
The fair included some of the finest looking cockerels and hens, all bred purely for show
The three-day show was organised by the poultry association, Recryme and Coín town hall.
The event, which also presented specially bred doves and turkeys, was opened by the mayor of Coín, Fernando Fernández and the president of Recryme, Francisco Alfonseca.
The jury of the morphological competition took into account the different aspects of the breed, such as size, weight, plumage and colour.
All exhibits were pure breeds of a type recognised by the poultry association, and it is the points allocated for each feature which decide the quality of the bird and ultimately its placing.
The exhibition finished last Sunday, when trophies were awarded to the winners of the different categories.
There was also a poultry painting competition involving art students from the local college in Coín. The winners of the competition will have their work displayed in Coín town hall.
