The council has reached a collaboration agreement with the ADIF railway administration company to create a new stop on the Malaga-Fuengirola suburban line in the residential area of Nueva Torrequebrada.
MP Miguel Ángel Heredia and the mayor, Víctor Navas, have insisted that a viability study needs to be carried out, “because the local population is large enough, there is enough distance from the nearest stop and local people have been calling for this for years, because they use the train to travel to work.”
The government recently said it had no plans to build a new stop in this location, despite it being one of the largest growing areas.
“More than 10,000 people live here and a new station would solve their mobility problems,” says Heredia.
Nueva Torrequebrada is over six kilometres from Arroyo de la Miel.
Navas says the council could probably afford to finance this new stop if necessary “but we couldn't do it without the relevant permisions from the government”.
