Drumelia Real Estate has become the first property firm on the Costa del Sol to put a house up for sale in the electronic currency bitcoins.
The Marbella company's owner and director Sergey Sinichkin said, “Those who accept the payment of a property in bitcoins are investors in cryptocurrencies. They trust bitcoin will be consolidated and that it's a safe payment method. Actually, in practice, it's like any other currency.”
The property, in La Alquería, Benahavís, has a value of 2.49 million euros, around 183.5 bitcoins, although the price will be adapted to the exchange rate on the date of sale.
The bitcoin is currently the most common digital currency in the world and firms such as Microsoft, Expedia, Destinia and Starbucks already use it in their transactions.
