Two men, aged 24 and 37 years, have been arrested in Marbella in connection with a scam targeting older residents in their homes.
The men are said to have posed as employees of a gas company in order to gain access to the homes of their victims.
Sources said they knocked on doors wearing an official-looking uniform, holding identification documents with a logo of a fake gas company and a credit card machine to take payments.
Through the fake identity, they are said to have made their victims believe they were genuine inspectors of gas equipment.
They then asked for a minimum 50 euros for the basic check. So far, they are being investigated on two frauds of 330 and 761 euros.
The investigation began in December after the daughter of one of the victims raised the alarm when a payment was made for 761 euros for maintenance work carried out by the accused.
