National Police officers are searching for a British mother-of-two who went missing from her Marbella home more than a week ago.
Rebecca Muldoon, originally from Essex, vanished from her home on January 2. The 35-year-old, who had been living with her partner and two children on the Costa del Sol for the past year, failed to appear in court to confirm her reports of domestic abuse she had suffered at the hands of her partner. Following her allegations her partner had been arrested and he was apparently being held by police when she went missing.
The authorities were alerted when a neighbour contacted Marbella police station claiming that Rebecca’s children, aged eight and eleven, had been left alone in the family home.
The police contacted Rebecca’s family and they immediately flew to Malaga to take care of the youngsters. The children are now understood to be in the UK in the care of a close relative while her family and loved ones wait anxiously for news on her whereabouts.
A friend of Rebecca’s has appealed for information on her whereabouts in a social media campaign, saying: “Rebecca has been missing for a week. She has no money, passport or clothes and her phone is switched off.”
The woman's sister reported her disappearance to British police who are collaborating with their Spanish counterparts in the investigation.
Local police have confirmed they are probing the mystery disappearance and are trying to find out where she was last seen in order to trace her whereabouts.
