Torremolinos town hall has announced that the work to make the train station in Plaza La Nogalera more accessible will now go ahead as planned, although a little later than originally intended.
Following a period of uncertainty, rail company Renfe has confirmed that, although the work will not begin in January, the new station, which will cost 7.5 million euros, should be complete by the end of 2018. The planned works will result in the comprehensive renovation of its existing facilities and will make them fully accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Torremolinos is one of the few stations which still fail to comply with accessibility standards in Andalucía, despite registering an average of more than 6,000 passengers a day. The escalator is only operational for people leaving the station, despite repeated requests for the station to be modernised to allow easier access.
