The public company that runs Malaga's cemetery park on the outskirts of the city has announced that its plans for a special pets burial and cremation area could come to fruition by late next year.
Parcemasa says it plans to offer a cremation service as an alternative to the cremation of pets provided by various dog and cat homes. They also hope to offer extra services such as corteges, farewell ceremonies, burials and rentals of niches .
To bring their plans to life on a plot of 15,000 square metres, a one-million-euro investment is needed. The pet cemetery will have a different entrance to the main cemetery.
A team of economists has carried out a viability study of the project, which still needs approval from the board, and has said that the investment can be recovered within twelve years through income from pet burials and other services.
The study estimates that some 7,500 dogs die in Malaga city each year and that one in three owners would be interested in using the new pet cemetery's services. The business plan states that prices will start at 140 euros for a cremation and 150 for a shared grave.
