Long-awaited improvements to the motorway exits on the A-7 east of Marbella could start by the end of next year.

Central government has said it is to start a public consultation in February on its plans to upgrade the access sliproads on the section of the road between the Marbella arch and Hospital Costa del Sol.

The announcement was made in Madrid on Wednesday at a meeting between the mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, and government highways officials. Once the public consultation is completed, the contract to carry out the works can be put out to tender and work start.

This will be the first phase of expected improvements to the A-7 in the area. Madrid also hopes to put out to tender early next year the contract to design an extra lane on the A-7 between Puerto Banús and San Pedro, which is often congested.
