National Police say they have broken up a gang of muggers who had been targeting tourists drinking in nightclubs in Puerto Banús over the summer. Officers say that the gang had been stealing luxury watches from people in the clubs and that 320,000 euros worth had been reported missing. The gang is also believed to be behind thefts from local jewellery shops.
Police have been investigating the possible gang members for months and finally succeeded in identifying eight men, all French and Belgian nationals and aged between 23 and 34.
Four of the eight were held in a recent raid carried out by police and arrest warrants were issued for the other four. Four watches were also recovered, including two Rolexes.
