The new underground car park in Estepona's central Plaza Antonia Guerrero, (known as Plaza del Huevo for a distinctive egg-shaped bandstand), won't be open for at least a month, councillors have said. Although there is still some final building work to do below ground, contractors have been rushing to finish the landscaping on the surface instead in time for the switch on of the town's Christmas lights.
Local shops had been eagerly awaiting the switch on, which has been brought forward this year. It was scheduled for Thursday night this week (23 November) in the new-look square and a 14-metre-high Christmas tree has been put up. The building works on the parking have been delayed for over a year.
