Malaga city hall have ordered that a large number of terraces in the city occupy less space in the streets in order to create harmony between pedestrians and businesses. Under this new law, tables and chairs will not be able to take up more than 50 per cent of the pavement. This will mean that a lot of bars and restaurants will have to downsize. This new ruling ensures that there will always be a space of at least two metres for pedestrians to walk through.

Furthermore, in pedestrianised streets and throughout the historic centre, the installation of rigid awnings will be banned. Violators will be fined up to 3,000 euros.
