Medical professionals across the Axarquía have rejected proposals to change the accident and emergency service in the area's health centres.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Juan Carmona and Julio Ros, speaking for Malaga doctors, claimed that the proposals would slash emergency services and see more non-urgent cases and longer waiting times at the Axarquía hospital in Torre del Mar. They said that the proposals included expecting family doctors to leave their surgeries whenever an emergency situation arose, leaving patients with appointments waiting.

Malaga's health authority said that no changes would be made until early 2018 and emergency staff jobs would not be affected.
