Four siblings, aged between five and 13 years old, spent several days living with the corpses of their mother, 40, and her partner without realising, continuing life as usual, until the landlord of the home in La Zarza (Huelva) came round to check on his new tenants on Saturday. Only then were the bodies discovered, with the pair appearing to have overdosed on drugs, possibly a suicide, said sources.
According to accounts given by the children to police, it was quite normal for them to be left unattended for long periods of time. None of the neighbours questioned noticed anything unusual.
The father of three of the children has initiated custody proceedings.
