José Bernal, mayor of Marbella, has insisted this week that the project to convert the Arroyo Primero -a dry stream valley that was once the towns showground- into a boulevard and park will still go ahead despite the provincial government withdrawing 1.7 million euros of funding.
Marbella had recently asked for permission to extend the duration of the works for a second time so that problems with the water-channelling mechanism and the ground underneath a proposed amphitheatre can be resolved.
However, the Diputación has refused this request and instead Marbella will fund the project itself and hope to reclaim the money once the project is complete.
