Government agrees to study La Cala de Mijas breakwater plan

  • Local politicians have been calling for the structure to be built for some time to prevent the sudden erosion of local beaches during heavy winter storms

Central government has agreed to take charge of the plan to build a breakwater on El Bombo beach in La Cala de Mijas.

Local politicians have been calling for the structure to be built for some time as they believe it will capture sand and help prevent the sudden erosion of local beaches during heavy winter storms.

Mijas council had written to both the national coastal authority and environment department last year to ask them to build the groyne, but continued to face criticism from opposition PP councillors for not doing enough.

Ruling councillors have ironised that, until now, it has been the PP-led national government that has been holding the scheme up by not replying.
