With seven newborns in the town of Jimera de Líbar in the past year, it is experiencing something of a baby boom after the town hall decided to launch a 300-euro baby cheque to encourage population growth. It is hoped that the new programme will mean that the towns school, which currently only has 15 students, will be able to stay open.
