Manilva council plans to attract more cultural tourism to the municipality by turning La Duquesa castle into one of the most important archaeological parks on the Costa del Sol.
The site includes a necropolis, a villa, baths and a fish salting factory dating back to the period between the 1st and 5th centuries A.D.
The project is expected to cost around 366,000 euros and the local authority has applied to the Malaga provincial government for grants which are available for municipalities with a population of less than 20,000 for cultural infrastructure projects.
Experts believe the archaeological park would take about nine months to complete.
